Before you travel

Check the latest UK Government advice regarding rules for travel to the UK and prepare for border crossing by visiting the UK Government website.

You can also take out travel insurance to cover you for any unforeseen circumstances.

Arriving by air

Manchester International Airport (MAN) is the nearest large airport, and has convenient direct train links to Leeds, with a journey time of around 75 minutes.

Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) is only three miles from the University’s Horsforth campus. The airport has limited international connections outside of Europe, but you can find flights to London or Amsterdam for further connections.

You can also fly to one of London’s major airports, Heathrow or Gatwick, but please bear in mind the distances between London and Leeds.

Meet and Greet

Complimentary transfers are available to all students arriving at Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA). Coach transfers from other airports may be organised depending on student numbers.

Arriving by rail

If you're travelling from further afield overland, you will find that Leeds is conveniently connected by train to many large cities. Trains run directly to Leeds from London King’s Cross Station in around two and a half hours, depending on the service, and from Edinburgh Waverley in around three hours, depending on the service.

The Trainline is the leading ticket booking service for rail travel in the UK, and tickets can generally be purchased at short notice.

Coming from mainland Europe via Eurostar is a great way to minimise the carbon footprint of your travel and is an option for those either living in Europe or connecting there. You should be able to buy tickets to Leeds (LDS) as an end station but you will need to change trains in London.

Arriving by road

Leeds is well connected to the rest of the UK via motorways, so traditional taxis or popular ride-sharing services such as Uber are an option from nearby cities, but you must consider the higher cost of travel if you are interested in this option. Long-distance travel by taxi is generally not advised given the availability of much cheaper public transport options.

Coach travel is an affordable alternative for those who wish to travel by road rather than rail.
